Game Drives

A game drive in Samburu National Reserve means experiencing a lot of very wildlife up-close, including Samburu’s special five.

Come for a game drive in the comfort of an open 4×4 Land Rover.

A sure way to give you that classical safari feeling!

Come See the Animals

One of the reasons that makes the Samburu National Reserve unique is that you can observe animals that are not found elsewhere or that are very difficult to spot. In particular, you will see the Samburu "Special Five": the Grevy zebra with its typical white and very thin black stripes, the reticulated giraffe with the particular spots of the mantle, the Somali Ostrich with the blue legs and neck, the gerenuk with its elongated neck that often is sighted standing on two legs while feeding from the bushes and the fringed-eared oryx, or East African oryx, with tawny hair.

The ecosystem also includes Grant gazelles, impalas, waterbucks, dik-diks, hippos, olive baboons, warthogs, lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffalos, hyenas, elands, jackals, klipspringer, mongooses, bats and even wild dogs.

Crocodiles of the Nile are also present in large number in the Ewaso Ng'igro, and the rare African spurred tortoise, a species at risk of extinction, can also be spotted here.

We are passionnate about wildlife

A game drive with Samburu Riverside Camp is an exceptional experience. First, we are located right in the reserve, we grew up in the area, and are truly passionate and protectors of wildlife.

As many other places, game drives are usually conducted in the early mornings or in late afternoon, since these are the coolest times of the day when most animals are more active. But we can also tailor them to your specific trip plans, and they can vary in length and distance, depending on your preferences.

Our knowledgeable guides will introduce you to the life in the savannah and share their intimate knowledge about the wildlife in the reserve. And as you drive into the wilderness, you will be captivated by the vast beauty of the savannah, with its rolling hills and wild horizon.
